Wire Basket Makeover

Hi!  Last summer I went to this amazing garage sale and ended up loading up my car with all sorts of goodies.  One of my purchases was a wire basket.  I knew it could be great so at the 1/2 price (last day of the sale) I ended up paying a whole .05 for it.  Nice right?

So are you ready to see what this guy looked like before it got some new paint?

I am not really sure why those hearts were there but they were sun damaged or something.  They were a really weird color and just made the entire thing look terrible.  Of course they came off immediately.

Then I had this.  Which wasn’t bad at all.  But the picture doesn’t really show how weird the metal was.  It was lighter silver than what is showing.  I thought about painting it black or the Oil Rubbed Bronze that I love.  But I decided to get some color involved.

That is where I cam up with this!  I think it is really pretty.

I wanted some clear milk bottles to go in it.  I tried the Starbucks iced coffee bottles but they were too big.  I looked around at Dollar General and found these bottles.  They came with pour spouts like for olive oil and such but I removed those so I could use them as vases.

They were a funny orange-ish color but I kind of liked them with the teal-ish color (these are technical terms) of the basket so I left them alone.  The sign and the sticker on the bottles said $1 each but when I got to the register turns out they were on clearance so they were only .30 each.  Bargain!!!!

They fit perfectly and I am so glad I found them.

I am really ready for spring and this display is bright and cheery.

What do you think?  So easy and it only cost $1.32 with the tax.  I love it!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you will share this post and take a look around at some of my other posts while you are here.  In fact…take a look at some of my Project Galleries.  I am sure you will find something you love!

Wow--I really love this set! Wire has always been a favorite of mine anyway and so much the better for your beautiful colors with it--and the flowers/branches in it are gorgeous! Daisies and "chicken" wire are always a perfect match.

When you said the bottles had salad oil tops--it made me think. I could use something like this WITH the salad oil tops and caps on the bottles, as I'm constantly digging in the cupboard above the stove for my various oils--grape seed, olive, regular oil and a custom one I make with herbs in it. Can't believe your budget on this project!! Love to find things free or dirt cheap to fix up. Those awful hearts though.....why?

I know...why would anyone add those awful hearts? They were pretty horrible. I love this thing and I can't believe I found the bottle for so cheap. They were definitely a find and a half!

Well doggone, love your bottles in gorgeous aqua wire basket (another of my loves).. Among too many other things have fascination with colored glass bottles and boy did you score on price. I agree the amber bottles look very nice in aqua basket. Hubs gets irritated with me when I spot wire baskets, how many do I need? As many as can find in different shapes/sizes. Right? Who knows what can be done with them or used for. He keeps telling me he's going to clean out all my "'stuff". Told him he'd better be careful as I can do same thing with his stuff, namely tools never used. Hey discussing keeps us alert and well, gotta keep those brain cells alive, lol. We're together pretty much 24/7. Think I'd better rent storage garage for my "stuff", sooner rather than later. Have great weekend

Wire baskets are sort of an obsession of mine right now. I am having a hard time passing them up. Especially when they are so cheap! You have a great weekend as well and thanks for stopping by!

Michelle I love the makeover your wire basket got. The color is so pretty and just perfect to brighten up any spot. You got everything for practically nothing! I love a good bargain but you were able to transform it and make it special and pin worthy. I'm hosting a new link party at Sweet Inspiration and would love to have you join us. It runs Friday to Tuesday.

Adorable! I love the teal-ish color myself! You gave this piece such a nice face lift. The orange-ish bottles look lovely too! Thanks for sharing such a fun project.

Thanks Heather. I wasn't sure if I should paint the bottles too but now I really like the orange-ish color. Thanks for stopping!

It's adorable and fun and perfect. I do like it a lot. The cost is such a win-win of course and so fun to think about getting something for a few cents and turning it into something beautiful.
