Engraved Cutting Boards
These engraved cutting boards were so fun to make and were super fast once I got the settings just right on the xTool F1.
The folks at xTool reached out to me a while ago and asked if I would use the laser in exchange for some posts with honest reviews. Best decision ever. I love this machine.
I have added some affiliate links for your convenience. You can see my full disclosure here.
Supplies Needed:
- xTool F1 Laser Cutter/Engraver
- Bamboo Cutting Boards
- Food Grade Mineral Oil (optional)
- Winnie the Pooh SVG files
- Wine and Cheese SVG files – Cheese, Wine & Everything Fine, Tried Cooking With Wine, Wine, Cheese and Friends
You can use any SVG file for the xTool F1. You can use PNG’s as well but they are not as user friendly in the creative software. I have found that using an SVG or creating the design myself in the program is the easiest way. And I like easy!
Upload the Design into XCS (xTool Creative Space)
You will need to download XCS if you have not already. If you own a xTool laser cutter than I am assuming you have already downloaded the program.
Then upload your first SVG into XCS. It may ask if you want to scale it to size. Click yes. You will still want to make it smaller. The actual size depends on how big you want the design on the cutting board. We will get to that in a minute.
I wanted a couple of my designs to be in the lower left corner of the board. Since the board is bigger than the work space we have rotate the board so that corner is fitting into the workspace.
You can select all of the text and group everything together.
If I want the text to be right side up when I turn the board over then I need to flip the text in the program so it will engrave correctly on the board. In the above photo I am using the framing tool to see how big it will be and where it will be positioned. If you want it bigger or smaller adjust the entire design and change the size,
Then I use the rotate field at the top of screen and type in 180. It will turn it half way and it will be upside down.
Settings and Engraving
When you have the size and the position it is time to get our settings ready. The settings I used on the bamboo cutting boards were: Engrave – Blue Light – Power: 50, Speed: 100, Pass: 1, Lines per cm: 300.
If you going to cut a lot or you just want to save your settings in the machine you can click the little button next to the field under “settings”. Before you rename, it should say “manual”. I named mine Bamboo Cutting Board. Then the program will remember your settings and anytime you want to engrave a bamboo cutting board just hit the drop down menu and click on your named setting.
Now you are ready to engrave. Click process, then start, then press the start button on the machine.
Each cutting board is different so they will each have a slightly different look.
I would say each board took me between 9-12 minutes depending on the design. It was so fun.
Here are the wine and cheese designs.
And here are the Winnie the Pooh designs. I don’t know why I chose this little guy. He just makes me happy. I saw a different Winnie the Pooh cutting board on Pinterest and it inspired me.
Aren’t they just so cute?
You can, of course, engrave any design you want. I think they would make great personalized gifts for a bridal shower, first home, etc. You can add names, dates and more to personalize them even more. The sky is the limit.
What do you think? Is a laser cutter in the cards for you? I never thought I would ever have one. But when xTool reached out to me I was so excited. Since then, I have purchased a larger laser cutter on my own. I really fell in love with this smaller size too. It can do so much and if I start going to craft shows I can take it with me and personalize items right there for people. And since it comes with an IR laser as well it is perfect for engraving metal. Check out these fun necklaces I made.
I had so much fun.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
