Stencils are so versatile and inexpensive as far as home decor goes. Plus, if you own a cutting machine they are easy to make. If not, you can purchase them and create some one of a kind designs.
I have made some great stencil projects over the years and these are just a few of my favorites to show you how great they can be.
Stencils can be painted on fabric for throw pillows, furniture and just about anything you like!
Here are some ideas to get you mulling over stencils!
How Do You Make Your Own Stencils?
I love to make my own stencils and that is what I do 99% of the time. It is easy and fairly quick using a Silhouette Cameo or Cricut machine and vinyl. You don’t need expensive vinyl for these projects. It just needs to stick long enough to get the paint down and I have never had an issue.
All you have to do is cut out your design and use the background instead of the actual design. It does help to use the transfer tape to get the design on the piece just the way you like it before starting to paint. Here is a video I have made using the transfer tape and painting with a handmade stencil. I hope you find it useful.
Okay, now let me show you some of my favorite stenciling projects.
