DIY Office Organization Station

I was pretty excited to see this in my garage one day.  I received a Facebook message from my friend Julie saying she was going to drop off a couple of tables. Well, she did that but left this cute, little magazine rack too.  Well, I guess it is a magazine rack.  I loved it right from the start even though it looked like this.

It didn’t always looks this dusty.  It has been sitting in my garage for quite some time.  Even though I didn’t purchase it from a thrift store it still qualifies as an upcycle.

There were only a couple of steps to this upcycle.  It was one of the easiest makeovers I have ever done.

A Little Repair

Two of the legs/feet were loose so I glued them back on first with some wood glue.  After that it was just paint.

A Little Paint

I got out the HomeRight paint sprayer for this one.  It literally took a couple of minutes for each coat.  Then I touched up a few places  with the brush that the sprayer missed.

Some Distressing

After the paint was dry I used a sanding block and distressed a bit of the paint.  I love this part.

Adding Bookplate Label Holders

Jeff, of course, added the little bookplates for me.  I had these left over from my Craft Organization project and I love, love, love them.  They are from D. Lawless Hardware if you want to get some of your own!

After that….voila!  So easy and done.

I spend a lot of time on my laptop sitting on this sofa and I needed a little organization station.  It isn’t fully organized yet because I need to use it for a while.  Then I will add the labels in the bookplates.

What do you think?

If you like it…don’t forget to pin it!

I love that color; i think it’s my favorite of what I’ve seen you use. That is a really smart use for the magazine rack, and those label holders really set it off. Great job, Michelle!

Wow michelle, this turned out beautifully. It was looking pretty sad before but the color you chose and those cute card file handles brought it back from the dead. I need one of these next to my recliner because as I sit there is a stack of spiral notebooks waiting to be better organized.

Thanks Chelsea! You will love your paint sprayer. I try to use it as often as I can just because it is so fast and the finish is so smooth.

Now I will be on the lookout for one of these while thrifting but i think it is a rare find. Love the color, what is it? I totally understand waiting until the organization becomes organic as you continue to use it. Love this!

Hi Shirley. Thank you. The color is Valspar – Bushel from the So Cool Collection. It really is pretty. I have a couple more projects I am making over with it. I hope you find one of these someday I was happy to get it.

Such a smart idea! I need to find a place to put my laptop and papers when I do work at night before I go to bed. This would be perfect!

Thank you Lindsay. It works really well for papers, etc. Of course now I don’t have to get up as often so I am even lazier than before. LOL!

I love this idea. Right now I have my stuff in a basket on the coffee table in the den. It is driving me crazy. This will keep everything organized yet out of the way and pretty to look at.

  13. Leanna

This is absolutely perfect for beside the couch. I like you work during the day downstairs, but the evenings are spent upstairs on the couch with the laptop.

The downstairs is organized but it would be super handy to have something exactly like this for upstairs a well.

Great makeover especially the little label hardware.
