I loved out traditional tree. Although it was not a live tree it was pretty. We converted to a DIY wood Christmas tree about three years ago and I have been very happy with our decision.

Our Wood Christmas Tree
I know it is a little strange to have a tree like this but I have come to really like it. We decided to to this because we have a gazillion cats and one of them in particular just could not stay out of it. It was practically a full time job to keep her from climbing up the center.
So we created our own DIY wood Christmas tree. You can see the original post here! In the post I show you how we made the tree. This year I updated it and made it look even better.
The Grinch Theme
Since I used chalkboard paint on the tree I can change it however I want so in keeping with my Grinch theme I wrote in chalkboard marker the famous Grinch quote: “Maybe Christmas he thought, doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more!” I tried to use my best Grinch font and It fit perfectly.
I also re-did the lights and the ornaments and made them look better. We hang it in our living room on the french doors that lead out to our front porch. The gifts, which are either not purchased or not wrapped, will go under the tree.
The best part of the whole thing is that the cats…for the most part leave it alone. I call it pet friendly!
What do you think of our wood Christmas tree?
Thanks for stopping by!

I love your wooden tree! This would have been a good solution for when my son was little too. I'm pinning this so I can remember to make my own next year, I have the perfect spot for something like this (but no pets so I don't have to worry about that).

Thank you. We love it but my grown kids don't. LOL! You should definitely make one especially if you have the perfect spot for it.

What a perfect idea. We have a young cat that I am just waiting for him to take our tree down. Hopefully it wont happen but this is a great solution!

Thanks Deborah. We do like it now that we have it but it was a little hard to adjust to not having a tree in the living room.

This is a great tree for homes with cats or anyone with a small living area. So cute. I recently saw a slideshow of trees destroyed by cats and I couldn't help but feel sorry for the families including the cats. This is a great alternative especially if you happen to have a young pet.

I have fond memories of my cat as a child getting into the tree-omg it can be so crazy what the cats will do to a tree. i enjoyed seeing your cat in the tree. also, your wood tree is so very awesome, i mean Macy's would be selling them like hotcakes if they had your wood tree.

Chloe loved to be in the tree. She would try it every day. The little brat. LOL! Well, we love the wood tree and they don't seem to bother it at all.
